Artificial intelligence (AI) in Language, will transform the way we live our lives, and it has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach education, work, and leisure. However, there is a looming danger associated with this technology that must be addressed before it is too late. If we fail to use AI responsibly, we run the risk of creating generations of people who are unable to assimilate knowledge and distinguish truth from fake.
The misuse of AI in the direction of creating a generation of ignorant and confident individuals who cannot distinguish between truth and fake has the potential to cause severe consequences. One of the most significant dangers is that it could lead to a society that is highly polarized and fragmented, with people holding radically different views based on false information. As people become more confident in their ignorance, they may be more likely to reject information that challenges their beliefs, leading to a rise in conspiracy theories and alternative facts. This could lead to a breakdown in trust in democratic institutions and could ultimately undermine the very foundations of our society.
This will lead to creation and amplification of “Intellectual Zombies” who just keep ingesting AI-generated content to keep their minds occupied could lead to a decline in original thought. If people become extremely reliant on AI-generated content to provide them with information, they may be less likely to engage in independent thinking and creative problem-solving. In such a society, we would have intellectual zombies who would be content to ingest AI-generated information without questioning its validity. These people would be devoid of any original thought or creativity, and they would be unable to challenge the status quo. They would be content to live in a world where everything is predetermined and controlled by algorithms which in turn could be controlled by a handful of extremely powerful people.
One consequence of this is that it could lead to a society that is less innovative and less adaptable to change. If people are unable to think creatively and critically, they may be less likely to develop new ideas or solutions to complex problems, leading to stagnation and a decline in overall progress. If we allow this situation to continue, it is likely that in two generations, humanity will implode itself. The lack of critical thinking and the inability to distinguish between truth and falsehood would lead to a breakdown of society. People would be unable to work together, and conflicts would arise over even the most trivial of issues. The resulting chaos would be catastrophic, and it would take decades, if not centuries, to rebuild.
